Felicia at the HVK Specialty 2007

Felicia is truly the result of Scandinavian co-operation - having a Norwegian father (from Swedish/Norwegian lines) and a Swedish born mother living in Finland (from Swedish/Norwegian lines with a touch of old German), and being herself born here in Finland!

Felicia finished her Finnish Championship pretty easily with altogether 5 CAC's (3 needed) soon after her second birthday, along with two Best Of Breeds. She also has a CACIB (with BOB) and a couple of reserve-CACIB's, too. Her Swedish Championship she gained at the perstigious Bosjökloster Sighthound Specialty already on Saturday (and would have gotten another CAC the next day, too, at the Swedish Afghan Hound National, but was then already a Champion, of course). Despite the nice success, she herself is not very keen on the show rings and would prefer staying in the tent with us. When she wants she can show her beautiful construction to her advantage, but we have learned to respect her wish of showing veeeeery seldom. To keep the fun in it. Nowadays she has mostly been seen in the Working class - to all the judges' amazement - "a working dog with all that coat?!?" - due to her success at the lure coursing fields that qualifies her to participate in that class.

Felicia loves lure coursing

Lure Coursing is something Felicia just loves to do! And she also has a Track Racing licence but doesn't compete there much. She is not very fast, but boy is she serious!! At the coursing fields, her advantages are the fast starts, the superfast turns - even 3 x 360° is possible in full speed (if needed, ha ha) - and the seriousness, which is why she has never stopped a race or gained a disqualification! That's also probably why so many people have told us they'd wish their dogs to be paired up against Felicia, at least they would have a fair-play friend. One of her "life missions" has also been to help many of our Afghan friends gain their Track Racing licences. Whenever someone needs a friend for the test runs, we try to be there! That's also one way to enjoy the hobby!

Our silly girl sleeping

At home she's a very happy dog who loves to sleep on the couch with her legs up in the air. Yup, nothing special there if you happen to know Afghans, but her specialty is that this position often makes her feel so good that she starts to wag her tail vigorously even during the sleep! And then she always wakes up looking a bit irritated when she has to stop that wagging tail with her nose... Such a funny girl she is!

Felicia & Tuuli at the Agirotu agility breed relay competition

Felicia is a very clever girl in learning and together she and I have trained some tricks and for example agility. The clicker is a perfect tool with her, since once she realizes what she is supposed to do, she will not even try to offer anything else. The agility tire jump is a perfect example of that. It took me only a couple of clicks to show her the right place to jump through and after that she sees no other alternatives. Once at the training the tire jump was positioned so (my fault) that she couldn't see properly because of the low sunset coming to her eyes, so she just put her one foot on the tire and started complaining to me "I know I'm supposed to jump through there but I can't seeeeee....". Any other dog would have just "forgotten" the whole jump or gone through the sides, I think!
